Soundproofing to the party wall alone does not work

If you think it’s about soundproofing the party wall you have missed the point….It’s about being about to relax, sleep, improve your health and well being and not think about moving house all the time.

Soundproofing will make your house feel like a castle, a place you can be peaceful; reading or thinking in the quiet or a place to express yourself; making noise, enjoying your hobbies.

Many homeowners when they first contact us think soundproofing is all about installing sound insulation to the party wall and they send us their measurements of the party wall, mainly the alcoves either side of the chimney stack. Many homeowners do not consider the fire back (area behind the fire), the bedroom floor, the chimney stack or suspended floor void. For a good reduction in noise, these areas MUST be address as part of any soundproofing investment.

Some homeowners hear every aspect of their neighbours daily lives and this makes them feel very aware of what they are doing in their own home. For example a homeowner I met recently would have her own TV on with subtitles because she was so worried about the neighbours who are attached hearing her TV. After the soundproofing investment she stopped hearing her neighbours and was able to truly relax in her own home and finally watch her TV subtitle free.

The health costs of not addressing your noise problem get worse over time and it takes a long time to recover. Unwanted neighbour noise can raise your blood pressure, change your mood and affect your relationship with anyone around you. This is all affects your physical and mental health.

It does not have to be like this…..

For many the true cost of soundproofing the entire house is just not feasible. You do not have to soundproof the entire house to get those comfortable, settled feelings; like you do not ever want to move house.

You can actually get these feelings by treating one room in your house really well using our 4 step soundproofing method.

After soundproofing one room really well you won’t be looking on Rightmove for that dream house….you will be researching your home extension, that new bathroom you have dream of.

Investing in your health and well-being by treating the bedroom or a room where you spend most of your time is well worth it.

Maybe a room you would love to entertain in without having those feeling of embarrassment when the neighbours bang on the wall. Or when the neighbours start pumping up the music and your guest start asking questions.

This one treated room can make a big difference to your quality of life.

Couple relaxing

You may have tried soundproofing a wall. Maybe soundproofing the party wall alcoves either side of the chimney stack, what about soundproof wallpaper or soundproof foam, maybe you have tried soundproof panels. Solutions that seemed less disruptive or seem like a quick fix.

Soundproofing to the party wall alone does not work, you will not get those settled comfortable feelings by addressing only the party wall in each room of your house.

hole in party wall

At the beginning of 2021, Quietco installation teams found huge holes in the separating party walls of the first seven properties we made noise free. Seven soundproofing projects in a row all had holes going through to next door.

These were not just old properties, some were new build properties only months old.

Just applying a panel over the wall and not addressing the main cause; like holes in the wall will not give a good noise reduction result.

What about the disruption?

Yes, you will have disruption in that room of your property for a few weeks while the soundproofing is installed to a complete plastered finish. We then re-fit all the electrical, carpentry, plumbing and carpet and fixtures and fittings.

When the plaster has dried (7-10 days), decorating can take place. With a well-managed project you are looking at disruption in that room of 3 to 4 weeks. How does that sound? For many homeowners they would rather do this then go through the 24 weeks or more disruption of moving house into a new area they do not know.

If you have a noise problem, we would love to help you; the first step is to fill out the form and book yourself a free noise diagnosis. If you are not within our installation area we can still help you with consultation advice.
